Quill Pen Refills

A quill pen is a writing instrument constructed of large bird feathers. Traditionally, this writing instrument was used for writing and signing important documents like Magna Carta and Declaration of Independence.

Quill pens require special care before becoming usable, with feathers being treated by immersing the point in hot sand or other methods until their structure hardens and their point becomes inert.

Parker-style refill

This refill, commonly referred to as a Parker-style refill, can be found in numerous pens. Featuring a long cylindrical barrel made of metal or plastic and thin tip with disc-shaped collar for holding ink within, the Parker-style refill resembles its counterparts: Pilot Hi-Tec-C Gel Pen Refill and Uni-ball Signo UMR-1 Refill; however they cannot be interchanged.

If you don’t know which refill your pen uses, look for telltale signs on its cartridge or barrel. Most pens feature their model numbers embossed or printed directly onto them so you can use these to search online. When reading descriptions online of refill types available to your pen such as Euro-style refills which feature thin tips all throughout its length; others feature wider tips that widen nearer the barrel.

Japan Type refill

There are various refills for Japanese pens, and they generally fall into two categories. While some offer more universal design standards than others, others might be specific to a pen model or manufacturer. Japan Type refills are the most frequently seen, as they can fit a range of models.

Euro-style refill

The Euro-style refill is one of the most widely available pens refills on the market, resembling that of a ceramic rollerball refill but smaller in size and function. Compatible with numerous pen from different brands, one notable difference with these refills is that their tips remain thin until nearing their barrel whereas other refills have tips which widen at their end; this difference often causes confusion when searching for suitable refills.
