The 80s Tape Dispenser
Nostalgic office decor? Or are you simply seeking an easy way to apply tape? A cassette tape dispenser could be just what’s needed! These dispensers vary by the type of tape they dispense and feature advanced features to help control usage and enhance ergonomics.
The Sony Walkman
The Walkman was an elegant little device, designed to be used rather than simply appreciated. Featuring a solid milled aluminum body with an upright hand-held format that was comfortable to hold, a bright and sharp LCD display, physical controls along one side featuring buttons of various sizes and shapes for various functions (playback buttons even had raised “nubs”) so you could feel them without looking, it made music listening an experience you could count on rather than admire only.
Hi-MD Walkmans offered an alternative to standard MiniDisc and NetMD players by directly playing back MP3 files from PCs without transcoding, providing two-way digital transfers at up to 64 times playback speed. These models also allowed two-way digital transfers between PCs at any one time.
Sony Ericsson released mobile phones geared specifically towards music playback from 2005 through 2011, known as Walkman phones. After 2012, however, they stopped producing dedicated phone models under this moniker; rather, referring to digital flash memory players as Walkmans instead.
The Boombox
Boomboxes are portable audio systems featuring multiple loudspeakers and amplifiers in one compact case. Most boomboxes run off either AC power or batteries, and feature either cassette/CD players or turntable/8-track tape deck components – although some include turntables/tape decks for even greater versatility.
Some boomboxes also feature dual cassette decks for dubbing, line recording capabilities, and radio recording features; however, due to MP3 players becoming increasingly popular over time. Boomboxes have seen their popularity dwindle considerably over time.
Modern boomboxes employ Bluetooth 5.1 technology for wireless streaming of music from smartphones or other Bluetooth devices to your speakers; some feature USB charging ports; they support voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for easy control with voice; some boast PartyBoost technology to link with other branded Bluetooth speakers for an enhanced listening experience and bring the party alive; they are even built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions for complete protection.
The Tape Dispenser
Basically, a tape dispenser is any device designed to hold and shear rolls of tape. They range from plastic hand-held dispensers used in offices and homes (which may be refillable or disposable) all the way up to industrial grade devices that hold multiple rolls at once, are self-loading, and offer advanced features.
Hand-held tape dispenser guns feature small spikes at their end that allow you to easily cut tape with just one flick of your finger, making them an excellent option if you are constantly on the move, such as in an office environment or for shipping packages.
Automatic tape dispensers can dispense and cut pressure-sensitive tape to an exact length, making them invaluable tools in industrial settings where productivity along assembly or manufacturing lines must increase. They also reduce material waste by dispensing only what is necessary, increasing efficiency. Some models even support gummed tape, which has paper backing with moistened glue that must be moistened in order to adhere.
The Office Tape Dispenser
An efficient tape dispenser is essential in any office environment. They’re lightweight and conveniently place themselves on desks while boasting handy cutters to protect fingers. Available in various sizes and colors to hold standard-size rolls of office tape.
To load a dispenser, first double-check that there are no spent rolls or remnants inside, and then align a new roll with its core so it sits centered. Finally, guide its end over the shear blade – you can adjust its tension knob as necessary to customize how your dispenser cuts.
If you need to dispense multiple rolls of tape at once, seek out a dispenser with an extra wide base that will keep them both stable and upright. Some models even provide storage spaces for pens and scissors – plus, many come in stylish black colors to blend with any office decor!
